It is very common and completely natural for new coaches to feel unconfident in their ability to get great results in their coaching sessions.

When I recently sent out a survey to my list the number one struggle new coaches are having appears to be around confidence and feeling ‘expert’ enough.

I watch many new coaches sit on the sidelines, waiting to feel confident, but the truth is you have to just get in the game and start.

You’ll never gain confidence without practice. It’s not possible.

I think the key reason new coaches don’t feel expert enough is because they are feeling responsible for the results their client gets and they are often comparing themselves to different experts in their field.

For example, a Health Coach can worry that she won’t get the results that a doctor might – but a health coach is meant to COACH – not be the doctor.

So how do you get in the game and start coaching BEFORE you feel ready?



The truth is that you don’t need many skills when you get started.

Your job is not to be perfect, it’s to be a coach - an incredible question asker and an incredible listener.

The truth is that as humans our true answers are already inside us. A coach’s role is to gently guide us to find our own answers. This is the power of coaching.

When a coach tries to fill every gap with ‘teaching’, tries to solve all of her client’s problems for her – she is in fact robbing the client of the true transformation available to her.

Coaching is about asking the questions, NOT having every single answer or the perfect solution.  Let the client have their own a-ha moments, rather than lecturing them or trying to be an expert on their life. That will exhaust you.

Do not try to rob your client of her own ‘a-ha’ by telling her everything you know – instead, master the art of asking questions and allow the magic of coaching to unfold.

Another trap is thinking that your life has to be perfect before you can coach. That’s a mistake.

Top athletes all have coaches, but their coach is not necessarily more advanced than they are… they just know how to COACH.

Of course, the key to doing this is having a powerful set of questions in your toolkit ready to go, so I have compiled a list powerful coaching questions for you to use in your coaching sessions.

It’s time to lean back and trust that you have everything you need to be a great coach – ask these questions, listen for the answers and allow your client the gift of a massive breakthrough.

How PR changed my biz game and upped my expert status

How PR Change my Business Game

When I first started out as a new Health Coach, I noticed the same people seemed to get all the attention in the media. Their names consistently came up in places where I was hanging out online.

  • It seemed like every week they were showing up in a new place – interviewed on podcasts with thousands of listeners, quoted in top magazines, and guest blogging for the biggest online sites.

  • I’d see them announce in their email newsletter, “My new book just hit #1 on the bestseller list!”

  • Every time they opened up their signature group program for people to join, hundreds of people flocked to join on the very first day.

  • They would write a heartfelt, vulnerable post on Facebook, and within an hour 300 people had “liked” it or shared it.


On the one hand, I was happy for them, because I firmly believe in appreciating the success of others and seeing that what is possible for someone else is therefore possible for me.

And it’s great that people are doing meaningful work and getting attention for it. Everyone deserves to have the highest success when they are authentically sharing their gifts with the world and uplifting others.

But..... on the other hand, there was one thing that kept nagging at me…



I was ready to authentically share my message and my gifts, too!  

Deep down, I had always known I was meant to do something big; to touch lives and impact the world.

 But it felt like I was watching others shine while sitting on the sidelines.

 So I started taking PR seriously and took action to get the media’s attention.

My Health Coaching business was called Fuel Urban Wellness, and being featured in high-profile places was a game changer in getting clients and selling my Driven Woman’s Detox program, for example.

Having the media publish what I had to say gave me the credibility that I saw in the other health industry experts I was following.

As a new Health Coach, a small boost in your credibility can make all the difference in getting your business off the ground. PR is one of the best ways to do this when starting out.

Getting exposure on sites such as Mind Body Green, Tiny Buddha and Women’s Health & Fitness was a massive boost for my business. It was the start of me being seen as a true expert in the field of Health Coaching. 

And in my current business today, media has continued to play a part in my being seen as the go-to authority in my field.

My front page article in the Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne Age as a business mentor moved the needle forward MASSIVELY in my business.

The real thing to note is that getting 'visibility' as a Health Coach comes BEFORE you are already seen as an expert. In fact, getting exposure in these ways goes along way towards being positioned as an expert FAST - even if you are still a beginner.

Working for myself has many advantages one of them being that I can work from anywhere in the world! I have traveled to some amazing locations and continued working from cafes in Paris, Abu Dhabi, Miami, Mexico, Singapore and New Zealand.

I have shared my favorite working cafe's in Bondi and LA so here is my list of Top Cafes to Work from in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast. 

Commune Cafe: Located on the highway, this great cafe has quirky vintage decor and amazing organic menu options. On my last visit, I fell in love with their Chilli Jam, Bacon, Egg and Avocado on Gluten Free Toast - wow! I washed it down with caffeine free Dandelion Latte that was equally amazing.

Maria Anita: This is a superb gluten-free health focused cafe, but don't let that stop you from indulging. The Snickers Slice is to die for and their Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Raw Cookies are a very close second. If you are after something a little less indulgent, I can recommend the Green Pea Smash on Homemade Gluten Free Toast which is a great twist on the usual avocado smash. They have a great little outdoor seating area if you would like to be closer to nature, and all day breakfast. Perfect for working any time of the day.

Anna Karena: This beautiful little cafe has a lovely atmosphere filled with delightful displays of cakes and all manner of yummy things (Many gluten-free). They have a pretty great high tea, but if you are looking for a something smaller to go with your mid-morning beverage, they have an impressive range of cakes. The atmosphere is positive and not too noisy. The staff will be happy to have you working away as they serve cake-loving customers throughout the day.

Paleo Cafe: Made popular by their recently released recipe book, this cafe provides allergen friendly paleo food options AND is a great place to work. I highly recommend trying their Bone Broth which is has a beautiful deep rich flavour and many nutritional benefits. The Bolognese with Zucchini noodles is also pretty great. If you are feeling like something sweet to keep the brain firing, try the Salted Caramel Almond Hot Chocolate - yum!

Canteen Coffee: Tucked down a funky laneway, Canteen Coffee has THE best coffee on the Gold Coast. The menu has a Mediterranean influence and you are surrounded by shops to explore, or simply sit and enjoy the atmosphere while people watching. Word of warning - they do get SUPER busy so aim to arrive outside of peak times or set up to work while you are waiting and enjoy the view.

Govindas: Fantastic cheap and scrumptious vegetarian food. It can be a little noisy for working but the tables are a good size so pop your headphones in and give it a try. All the food is awesome, but I especially love their home-made bake cauliflower. So good!

I had the most amazing experience today - Horse Whispering!!! Never in my life did I imagine I'd be in a ring, with a whip, directing a galloping horse with my energy and intention - but WOW - words can't describe! After watching 20 people do this and the horses mirror back their exact energy - I now understand at an even deeper level exactly how our confidence and energy effects others and the importance of who we show up as as coaches to others. AMAZING!!!!!

Just like these horses today, people WANT to be led by a coach with confidence!



One of the things that really stood out to me when reading through your responses to my recent question on the flight over here to the US was just how much ‘confidence’ (or lack thereof) is holding many of you back in your coaching business.

Confidence is a pretty general word, and so I started digging deep into your answers to look closer at what is really behind the confidence struggles (it is a 14 hour flight from Sydney to LA after all ;-)

4 Top tips for Blog Post Ideas for Health Coaches

It can be something new Health Coaches haven’t considered:  your website’s blog has huge potential when growing your successful health coaching business. Your website’s blog is a very powerful tool to use as part of your marketing strategy. It’s one of the best ways to connect with your target audience (aka Dream Clients), too.

Many of the new Health Coaches I work with put off blogging because they think they’re not good at writing, or, most often, because they just don’t know what to write about. If you just don’t like writing, there are many ways you can get around it, such as using video, recipes and photos. You’ll also find that the more you write, the better you get at it!

The easiest way to start each blog post is to pick a BIG subject and then break it down into 5 sub-headings that you can flesh out. In no time you have a great piece of content to put up on your blog.

Here are 4 top tips for coming up with blog post ideas:


There’s something not just inspirational, but highly motivating, about reading about how someone has claimed their health back after an upset or a lifestyle slide. 

What’s your story? Tell your readers about how you became a Health Coach;  how making the changes to your health also set you on the path to wanting to help others experience what you have.

People love talking about themselves, too: ask your clients about their success stories and if they’d be happy that you share them (you can change their name in the story if you need to).


Your dream clients need your signature program. They are talking about the problems your program offers solutions for. 

If you haven’t worked out your signature program yet, you can still follow this method:

Pick a subject that fits with the three top concerns your dream clients are looking to solve, and come up with a list of at least 5 topics that fit. Talk to your audience in your own voice, and talk directly to THEM.

Some examples are:

  • Meal ideas for keeping weight down, or even videos of you in the kitchen cooking them!

  • Low impact Exercise routines (you might be able to team up with someone who can guest post their videos on your blog)

  • A diary of your week – your fitness routine, your daily meal choices, your relaxation practices (don’t you love getting a peek into someone else’s life?)

  • Product reviews of your favourite food, exercise clothing/equipment, or organic skincare brands

  • Guest blog posts from other health professionals you’re networking with

  • A month of healthy school lunches, if your clients are busy mums in search of healthy alternatives for their growing families

If your blog posts solve a problem for, or educate, your target audience, you’ll be winning at the nurturing and engagement stakes, for sure. 

Everyone wants to know, “What’s in it for me?” and if you are able to give value by helping people by sharing easy, time-saving solutions, you’ll go a long way to establishing your credibility as a Health Coach. 

Nowadays, the mindset is all about GIVING, so don’t hold back. You won’t lose out because you gave away too much. In fact, you’ll find that you’ve earned your target audience’s trust (which means more commitments from potential clients).


Your target audience look up to you for inspiration and ideas. Feel free to share your list of favourite health blogs with them.

4 Ways to identify your health coaching target audience


A conversation over lunch today reminded me of the golden rule of being a coach and entrepreneur. 

"You do not need to be all things to all people" 

In fact, we really only want to be building businesses which we LOVE in every way - and that includes only working with ideal clients.

Every Health Coach has a unique service to offer. And you’re not only offering guidance on health and wellness. You’re giving of yourself to the clients who come to you.  Because of this, you don’t need to be all things to all people - you just need to be YOU.

By taking time to figure out your ideal target audience, you’re able to zero in on the people who are going to benefit most from what you have to offer.

The more you can drill down into the specifics of who your ideal target audience is, the more they’ll feel like you understand them.

If you can make them feel like you’re speaking directly to them, you’ll be the one they feel has the best solution for their health and lifestyle aspirations.

I believe that identifying your ideal client is one of the biggest keys in building a successful coaching business. This topic is often misunderstood, but it really does make the world of difference when you truly know WHO you are talking to and who you are creating your health coaching services for.

4 Ways to Identify Your Health Coaching Target Audience (aka dream clients):

1. Start with your story

Every experience you’ve had in your life so far has led you perfectly to your decision to become a Health Coach, right? What’s your story?

Mine is an adrenal fatigue diagnosis after 15 years of sacrificing my health at the altar of corporate advertising; a diagnosis that led me to discover more about the effects of stress and over-work on our bodies, and in turn awoke a desire in me to guide others to optimum health.

Back to your story: ask yourself what you would have paid for if it were on offer during your health challenge. Which experts were you following at the time? What books or magazines were you reading?

You’ll find your target audience will more than likely be very similar to you, so you’ll find invaluable clues to who they are in your own story.





2. Look to your unique area of Health Coaching to find who’s likely to pay for your services

The area you’re most passionate about as a Health Coach will point you in the direction of the types of people you’d have solutions for.

Let’s say your focus is weight loss: What type of person would want to lose weight? New Mums, or singles, or newly-engaged women?  What age would they be?

Go ahead and make a list of everyone you think would be looking for what solutions your area of Health Coaching could offer.

3. Identify your target audience’s desires

Your target audience is more than just the subject of their health. By creating a picture of what their whole life looks like, you can get a pretty good idea of who they are.

For example, if you’re thinking of targeting single women in their 30’s, think about what else is going on for them, aside from wanting to lose weight (in keeping with the above example).

What would bring her happiness? When would she feel a sense of achievement and satisfaction? What makes her feel good about herself? What does she prioritise over everything else?

4. Dig deeper into your target audience and find out what they’re really looking for

This is where you have to research, and then research some more! You need to get into your target audience’s heads to find where their pain points are, and what motivates them. It’s important to know what they want to achieve and what they’re willing to pay for it, too.

Based on everything we’ve talked about so far, you might already have a good idea of who you want to target.

To get to know them better, try some of these avenues:

Get on Facebook and participate in groups. Notice what people are talking about. Read what they’re commenting on and what questions they’re asking.

Talk to people. has a ton of groups that you can join in your area to mingle with like-minded people and find out what they’re into. There are groups for singles, and there are lifestyle groups. There are groups for business, and groups for mums.

Hang out at your local health, or organic food shop. Listen to what questions people are asking. Ask your own questions:  find out from the store owner what’s most on people’s minds, or what type of people are buying products that tie in with your area of Health Coaching.


BONUS TIP: You are going to want to know more about your ideal client than she possibly even knows about herself. Finding out this level of detail is what will really help you to connect in a deep and authentic way in which your ideal client will respect and enjoy. Nothing is worse than a business owner who 'assumes' they know what their ideal client wants, but hasn't gone the extra mile to really care enough to find out. Your ideal client knows what she wants, never be afraid to ask her directly.!


Once you have your ideal client nailed, the next step is to define your solution for your Health Coaching business which provides them the benefits they are looking for. Hint: once you’ve figured out your target audience, your solution becomes very clear.

I was super happy this week when facebook (finally) agreed to change my facebook page name over from 'Fuel Urban Wellness' to 'Amanda Jane Daley' (happy dances all around).

Just having the correct name on that page feels like I've come home - it feels like it's actually mine again and I am loving playing in there with lots of new business inspiration for you all.

One of the first posts I put up on that page after the change over has caused great conversation and alot of likes this weeks, so I wanted to let you in on the chatter.



You see sometimes it really is a matter of doing a few things a little differently that can make a HUGE difference in your business! 

Why not try these 3 things to boost your end of week and then pop on over to my new facebook page to join the conversation and see which point got everyone raving:

1. Simplify one thing
Pick one thing that you are going to simplify in your life or business. Does your morning routine help you launch into your day or make you feel defeated before you even get going? Do you need to reduce the number of apps and tools that you use to run your business? Pick one thing and find a way to organise, minimise, or systemise it until you know you’ve made it as simple as it could possibly be.

2. Get a Mastermind group together
Get a Mastermind group together for brunch and chat, share dreams and ideas. If you’re not part of a Mastermind group, then just invite some friends who are like-minded, motivated, and love to learn new things. Connecting and inspiring is a MUST for any entrepreneur!!

3. Send thank you cards or email to your clients
It is much easier and less expensive to keep clients happy than to replace lost clients with new ones. Keeping clients happy and engaged is what helps our entrepreneurial world go round. Plus it feels really awesome giving value to other people in a way that keeps them coming back. Send some gratitude their way with a hand written thank you card. Or a simple email message is a lovely idea if you are more electronically minded. Customers almost never experience this level of personal gratitude so it's a great opportunity to build an even deeper relationship with them!

If there's one thing I know well it is the power of surrounding yourself with people a few steps ahead of you. Yesterday I was reminded of the power of WHO you learn from once again.

I was lucky enough to fly Sydney to LA in Business Class a few weeks back. 

As I sat down in my seat, I was surrounded by top businessmen who fly all the time. With so much space and luxury in business class from the moment you board, everyone was super upbeat and friendly and within minutes conversations were flowing.

The topic quickly turned to 'how to avoid jetlag' and boy, did these guys know the tricks!

Within 15 mins of taking my seat, I had new knowledge under my belt of how to arrive at my destination top of my game and avoid jetlag.

It would have taken me YEARS of travelling to world to work these tips out by myself. 

It's the main reason I travel with extra 'jetlag buffer' days as I normally find there are a few days rendered useless after a long-haul flight. But by aligning myself with the seasoned pro's, I possessed their knowledge for myself.



I landed in LA fresh faced (ish), got picked up by my good buddy Paula in her super cute Mini-Cooper, headed straight for Cafe Gratitude for breakfast, Wholefoods for supplies and then spent the rest of the day catching up and masterminding on our businesses by the pool in the sun.

I was asleep at 10pm, and awake at 6am this morning energised and ready to go to the gym.



I've been trying to master this one for a while - and as someone who HATES being tired or feeling off my game in any way, this is a HUGE win.

Why waste time trying to work things out for yourself when someone a few steps ahead is willing to share their own learning?

This is one of the key reasons I love being a mentor to Health Coaches - so that you can learn quickly what took me years to work out in my business. 

PS. That insider tip on jetlag: It has to do with the food you eat ;-)
