Maybe you can relate?

Maybe you can relate

It's been very busy in my world lately.

Working with over 50 health coaches a week, launching the next round of my UPswing Mastermind program, and travelling back to New Zealand for Christmas and New Year with my family.

A few weeks back I was presented with an opportunity that felt almost too good to be true.

I hesitated... I almost didn't say yes... Maybe they were mistaken... Maybe I should think about it some more first... Maybe I'm actually too busy right now... I'm about to launch my program so maybe I should be "safe and responsible" for the next few months...

Oh and the clincher: Maybe I shouldn't spend the money needed to take action...

Isn't the mind clever at holding us back from our dreams?!

When an AMAZING opportunity came my way...

Instead of jumping all in with a YES...

I questioned it.  I didn't TRUST.

Thankfully I caught myself super quick. Took a deep breath and said YES to the opportunity... and already, only a few weeks later, so many things have unfolded as a result that I couldn't have even logically dreamed of myself.

Saying yes to that one opportunity created a ripple effect that I could never have created alone - and yet I almost missed it!

Sometimes we can be so 'busy' in everyday life that saying YES to something new can almost be missed, despite our dreams and best intentions.

Or sometimes when something arises that we would love to do, our sneaky monkey mind comes in to tell us "You can't do that," or "What if it doesn't work out?".

How are things going for you right now?

Do you ever get these conflicting messages between your heart, your dreams and your monkey mind?

Are you feeling a bit daunted by the whole "Health Coaching Business" thing?

I know that when I was first out of training, I had big expectations about what I was going to be able to do with myself.  No more long hours in the office... loads more time to get to those yoga classes... not feeling like I had to rush from one life draining part of my day to the next... it was exciting!!

Then as time rolled on and I couldn't seem to bring in enough clients... I started to doubt my big dreams.

Who was I to want this? Could I actually do this? Did I have what it took to run a profitable business?

Then, as amazing opportunities presented themselves - chances to learn how to really do this from mentors I admired - I had moments of doubt.

And you know... I don't think any of it had to do with what was on offer, because at the time I knew it was what I needed!

What was holding me back was ME.

I had moments where I just didn't trust myself...

I didn't believe that, if I was given and accepted this opportunity, I could actually be trusted to put in the work and do it.

If I'd listened to that inner critic, I would NOT - in any way - have the life I have. The freedom. The choice. The lifestyle.

So what was it that stopped me from listening to that inner critic that was telling me that I couldn't trust myself?

I looked at it rationally.

I knew that I had trusted myself to complete my health coaching training. And I'd done it. I'd graduated.

I'd trusted myself to decide to leave my corporate job and start my business. And I'd done that.

So I knew that I had a track record of going for my goals.

And when I realised this - I was able to keep my eyes on this new goal and make that leap.

That investment in myself has repaid itself many times over. :)

How can you trust yourself more right now? How can you look more rationally at the fears and doubts that are holding you back?

Top Working Cafes in Burleigh Heads

Top Working Cafe's in Burleigh Heads

Working for myself has many advantages one of them being that I can work from anywhere in the world! I have traveled to some amazing locations and continued working from cafes in Paris, Abu Dhabi, Miami, Mexico, Singapore and New Zealand.

I have shared my favorite working cafe's in Bondi and LA so here is my list of Top Cafes to Work from in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast.

Commune Cafe: Located on the highway, this great cafe has quirky vintage decor and amazing organic menu options. On my last visit, I fell in love with their Chilli Jam, Bacon, Egg and Avocado on Gluten Free Toast - wow! I washed it down with caffeine free Dandelion Latte that was equally amazing.

Maria Anita: This is a superb gluten-free health focused cafe, but don't let that stop you from indulging. The Snickers Slice is to die for and their Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Raw Cookies are a very close second. If you are after something a little less indulgent, I can recommend the Green Pea Smash on Homemade Gluten Free Toast which is a great twist on the usual avocado smash. They have a great little outdoor seating area if you would like to be closer to nature, and all day breakfast. Perfect for working any time of the day.

Anna Karena: This beautiful little cafe has a lovely atmosphere filled with delightful displays of cakes and all manner of yummy things (Many gluten-free). They have a pretty great high tea, but if you are looking for a something smaller to go with your mid-morning beverage, they have an impressive range of cakes. The atmosphere is positive and not too noisy. The staff will be happy to have you working away as they serve cake-loving customers throughout the day.

Paleo Cafe: Made popular by their recently released recipe book, this cafe provides allergen friendly paleo food options AND is a great place to work. I highly recommend trying their Bone Broth which is has a beautiful deep rich flavour and many nutritional benefits. The Bolognese with Zucchini noodles is also pretty great. If you are feeling like something sweet to keep the brain firing, try the Salted Caramel Almond Hot Chocolate - yum!

Canteen Coffee: Tucked down a funky laneway, Canteen Coffee has THE best coffee on the Gold Coast. The menu has a Mediterranean influence and you are surrounded by shops to explore, or simply sit and enjoy the atmosphere while people watching. Word of warning - they do get SUPER busy so aim to arrive outside of peak times or set up to work while you are waiting and enjoy the view.

Govindas: Fantastic cheap and scrumptious vegetarian food. It can be a little noisy for working but the tables are a good size so pop your headphones in and give it a try. All the food is awesome, but I especially love their home-made bake cauliflower. So good!

You have to value coaching in order to be a great coach

You Have Value Coaching

I believe that in order to be a great coach, you have to value coaching. Joining a coaching mastermind is, in my opinion, the best thing a new health coach can do for themselves and their business. This means investing in yourself.

Investing in yourself can be one of the most difficult decisions to make when new health coaches are considering growing their coaching business.

Truth - it can be scary!

Yet when you think about it logically, how can you ever expect your potential clients to value investing in coaching, if you as the coach don't value it highly in your own life first?

I caught up with Shaina when she’d just completed my 6 month UPswing Mastermind program and we got chatting about just that.

Let me set the scene: Shaina is a gifted personal trainer, dance teacher and fitness instructor who wanted to grow her business so that she could have more time and money for her family.

My issue was no money to join the program,” says Shaina.

At the time of joining, Shaina was charging $30 a session as a trainer. It’s hard to justify spending thousands on a program when there is not much money coming in to begin with. Well, that’s the logic we naturally apply to a situation like this.

Before I signed up, Amanda gave me a bit of advanced coaching to say ‘go out there and do this’,” continues Shaina. “I knew I had to get some clients before I even started the Mastermind!"

After I picked up my first client it gave me confidence to get more clients to pay for the program. Then, when I knew I could get clients, I felt confident enough to ask to borrow for the first payment, and ever since I’ve been getting clients in order to pay for myself."

Shaina’s story is not uncommon. It is a large story around money itself. It’s the fear that new coaches have to overcome - around investing in the program - that ironically propels them forward.

It was a leap of faith,” agrees Shaina. “I had feelings of knowing the program was for me, and the fear of money, and knowing if I told my husband how much it was going to cost he would say I’m crazy."

I had to overcome that fear and take the leap of faith, knowing that I was going to go where I couldn’t go on my own [in my business] and that the UPswing Mastermind was what I needed in order to get there.”

From charging $30 a session, and a couple of weeks into the UPswing Mastermind program, Shaina started upping her price to $500 for the next clients. “Then 2 weeks later again, I jumped to $1000 for my 3 month program, and it’s gotten better and better."

5 or 6 weeks into the Mastermind I sold a $4000 package for a 6 month program, following the formula of knowing how to get clients."

There is a money block that pops up for coaches who start to make big money called, New Level, New Devil. It’s that feeling of, ‘Who am I to be making this money? Who is this superstar clicking her fingers and making all this money?’

Shaina continues: “The next few months after I’d had great success things went backwards and I was kind of lost and my confidence dropped. It took a couple of months of work to get back to where I was, to get that belief system back up.”

Everyone has their own fears and money blocks; those things that are going to hold us back. But with the tools and the mindset work provided in the UPswing Mastermind Shaina was able to command really great income again when all these new mindset changes came in.

I got myself back in the game,” says Shaina. “You start to remember why you’re doing it; that you’re doing it for everyone else, and then the flow begins and the money comes to you. Last weekend I made $5.5k selling a one on one program.”

Personally, I always have a mentor on my team and I am always in a mastermind (ideal for me is a mastermind with access to a mentor within it). As coaches we will always need a coach of our won if we are committed to growth, expansion and excellence in our businesses. I really don't think it is possible to build a great coaching business alone.

Investing in yourself is a big decision, but it is outweighed by how much money you can generate with a structured program that gives you the tools to go out and get clients. The personal development and money mindset coaching plays a big part in helping coaches to see a return on their investment. When you decide to invest in yourself everything around you opens up. And as a coach, it is imperative that we receive our own coaching support as we continue to grow and evolve.

Let’s create your 2016 intentions

Lets create your 2016 intentions

How was your big breathe out? What’s bubbled up for you over the past few days?

With 2015 gently released, it’s time to consider all parts of your life and create your intentions for 2016.

Go grab your journal. You’ll also need a separate piece of paper.

1. Under each of the following categories, add 3 goals you’d like to achieve – bonus points if the goals are aligned with how you’d like to FEEL.

A.      Love and relationships
B.      Career
C.      Spiritual
D.      Body

2. Choose just 1 word for each of category that sums up your heart’s deepest desire in that area of life.

3. Now choose the ONE word out of all of them that sums it all up and write this on your piece of paper.

4. Put this piece of paper somewhere special, next to some crystals perhaps, and light a tea light candle to place on top.

5. ASK the universe for guidance. To see this through to its highest possibility. And TRUST it is being taken care of from here.

Spend the next few days meditating on this desired outcome, feeling or goal – integrating into your body and soul that it is truly being taken care of.

I will be back in a few days to share with you how to start to set your strategic, actionable steps to reach your 2016 goals.

Speaking of goals: Did you see my email inviting you to watch my ‘Behind the Scenes of UPswing Mastermind’ vids? There are some amazing stories in there from women who joined the UPswing Mastermind as part of their goal achieving for 2015.

In my Behind The Scenes of UPswing Mastermind video series I chat to Emma Polette who’s big goal for 2015 was to become a Health Coach, but her boss told her that she would never make consistent money from doing so, and really tried to ‘help’ her by not making a career mistake.

I’m dying to share what unfolded for Emma once she surrounded herself with people who are also following their dreams – but it’s such a better story told by her!

Pop over and watch our interview and see the truth behind the journey of building a Health Coaching business while still in your ‘real’ job.

Who else wants $5k months AND a life you love?

Who else wants $5K months AND a life you love

When choosing a coach to work with this year I was presented with the question:

"Do you want to create an empire or a lifestyle? They are very different paths..."

And without any hesitation at all I chose the lifestyle!

You see there are plenty of ways to make great money as a coach, but there are very few plans out there that allow you to do so without working long hours and hustling 24/7 on facebook. And I don't know about you, but one of the main reasons I got into coaching was to live life on my terms.

Lately more than ever, since I have consciously chosen to work much less than previously, I am full of so much gratitude for how my business allows me the beachside, healthy lifestyle I love so much.

And of course this is just my version of how I choose to run my business, clients of mine are currently living their own versions of freedom - working from Bali for 3 months, coaching from Italy or claiming back more time with their kids during the week.

How would your ideal business/lifestyle model look?

Honestly, there is a lot to learn in the first year or so of your health coaching business, but one thing I am so passionate about is ensuring that all new coaches set the foundations of their business on the right foot from day one - and this includes not just how many clients you want to work with and how much money you want to make, but how you want your days and weeks to look doing so.

You need a map - a plan - to design your business along the path you desire!

And in the video I have created for you today I give you that exact plan if you are looking to make $5k per month AND have a life - ready to use for yourself!

Click here to watch this brand new video >>

In today's video, I show you:

  • How to design your $5k month business/lifestyle model BEFORE you build your business

  • How to create packages that will sell, with a step-by-step action plan to create your first package and start earning real money. Confidently.

  • How to set the correct pricing for your packages so that you're paid the right amount for your services in your Health Coaching business.

  • PLUS - the key mistakes I see new Health Coaches make (hint, do not go make a website)

Dr Libby Weaver on Staying Healthy as a Health Professional

Why are you so tired with Dr Libby Weaver

Dr Libby is one of my all time favourite wellness experts. I was very fortunate to interview her a few years back on burnout and fatigue when I was Health Coaching, and even luckier to connect again for another interview recently - on all things health, wellness and business!

Screen Shot 2015-09-21 at 5.39.21 PM.png

I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I did, and take valuable insights from her advice for Health Coaches and running your own business!

With a natural ability to break down even the most complex of concepts into layman’s terms, Dr Libby empowers and inspires people to take charge of their health and happiness. When addressing any health concern, Dr Libby’s approach looks at the biochemical, nutritional and emotional reasons behind what might be driving the body to behave in a certain way.

And for those of us down here in Australia and New Zealand, we are lucky enough to have Dr Libby hosting some amazing events in coming weeks - the Sydney-based ladies in my UPswing Mastermind all have their tickets already - check out the details at the bottom of this post.

Running a thriving business and staying super healthy can seem a contradiction in terms sometimes - what are your top tips for juggling the two?

You cannot give your best in anything you do if you don’t first look after yourself and I understand how truly easy it can be to pay lip service to this.

When we become overwhelmed it is very easy to disregard daily rituals such as moving, eating well, stopping to centre your breathing or simply just taking some time out to ‘be’ – but this is precisely the time when these rituals are of the utmost importance.

Scheduling can be very helpful for some people, yet we often forget to schedule things that matter to us – such as going outside for a walk, taking 5 minutes to make a cup of tea etc. I have a morning ritual that I don’t compromise. I also schedule my downtime and prioritize it. That usually involves a gentle walk in nature. I know that I cannot best serve others and my mission if I don’t ensure my battery is charged. Without your health you don’t have a business so investing in you needs to be a priority. Plus when you take good care of you it doesn’t just impact you – it impacts everyone around you. When you are taking care of yourself you tend to like yourself more and the way you speak to yourself and those you love the most in world is far kinder.

What's your number one 'pick me up' when you're having a bad day?

The language pattern ‘I’m having a bad day’ never occurs within me. It’s just not how I think or see things. There can be challenges across a day – major or minor, but that doesn’t permeate how I see and experience my day. Without consciously thinking about it, I am very in touch with how privileged our lives are because all of our basic needs are met. And still for too many people in the world that is not the case.

But of course I understand what is inferred by the question. And my answer is I go outside. I use all of my senses and observe. I usually stretch my arms out across my heart as if I am giving the earth a big hug. Then I bring all of my awareness inside and close my eyes and just be for a few minutes. I know people think the concept of being ‘grateful’ gets overused but I am truly grateful for life itself plus everything I have in my life – such a clean water and fresh air. An attitude of gratitude can be very energising – and in times of challenge I bring myself back to this.

Do you have any tips for wellness coaches/entrepreneurs who know everything they SHOULD be doing to look after themselves, but struggle to actually keep themselves on track?

That’s a great question and one I’m sure we can all relate to at some point in our lives.

There is a clue in the word SHOULD. When it comes to making long term and sustainable changes to your nutrition, movement, commitment to conscious breathing etc, the change must be motivated by more than thinking it’s something you ‘should’ do. That is when health and wellness can become a chore – “I know I SHOULD go for a walk”, “I know I SHOULD eat more greens”, etc. Empower yourself with self-love. For example say to yourself “I know that if I go for a walk, I will feel energized and more clear headed”, or “I know that if I eat more greens I will be supporting my body with the nourishment it needs.”

At the same time we also need to remember that it is what you do everyday that impacts your health, not what you do sometimes. Be kind to yourself and understand there will be times when you don’t do all the things you’d like to, but make a conscious effort not to fall into a downwards guilt spiral. Tomorrow is a new day, put a full stop at the end of your sentence (for example I ate too many chocolate biscuits. I haven’t moved my body in weeks. I didn’t eat vegetables with that meal.) - whatever it may be and move on. It’s the judgment we pass on ourselves that leads us back to the lousy behaviour day after day rather than it just being the odd one-off. And truly, if you knew who you really are, you’d be in awe of yourself and you’d treat yourself accordingly.

What's your favourite go-to meal after a long day?

I absolutely love the delicious Brilliant Brassica soup from my second cookbook, Real Food Kitchen. It is packed full of liver supporting nourishment from broccoli and cauliflower and I can prepare it in under 20 minutes.

What's your top tip for turning off a typical entrepreneurs busy mind to get a good nights sleep?

Stop working two hours – well, at least an hour! - before you want to go to bed. Capture everything you are thinking of and then put that list in a safe place - I consider this sort of like a brain back up. Unfortunately, I know so many entrepreneurs who take their laptops into their bedrooms. Most of us are exposed to screens the whole day whether it is our laptop, tablet, smartphone etc. – this screen time can disrupt melatonin production a hormone that helps us to sleep, so avoiding screens before bedtime is also critical.

And lastly, I would say to do something that makes you relax, read a book, have a warm bath, listen to a mediation CD, or simply just chat with your partner – whatever works for you!

For a good night’s sleep, it’s also vital to take steps to decrease the adrenalin (stress hormone) production that may have been rampant across the day. The reason for this is that adrenalin communicates to every cell in your body that your life is in danger and as a result it doesn’t allow us to sleep deeply. Its concern is if we did, we may not wake up in time to save our own life! So not having caffeine after midday, exploring your perception of pressure and urgency (these are modern day reasons we make adrenalin) can be helpful long-term to living less on adrenalin, as is breathing diaphragmatically.

With so much wellness information out there - what are the 3 most important things every woman must be doing for her health?

1. Eat more real food

Many people aren’t good at eating less of foods that don’t serve them. Instead, focus on eating more… more Real Food! By default, you’ll not only consume more nutrients – and those are nutrients that keep us alive – but you’ll also eat less processed and packaged food, avoiding some of the ingredients they contain that can take away from your health. Real/whole foods contain not only nutrients but enzymes, necessary for every biochemical process in the body. Look at decreasing your reliance on packet or tinned foods and whenever you can look at making alternatives yourself. A simple and easy dressing or homemade tomato sauce will be far more nourishing than their store-bought counterparts and eating real food will give you the energy you need to feel your best all the time.

2. Focus on health not on weight

Far too often people make grandiose statements about dropping a dress size or losing a certain number of kilograms. While the intention is good, focusing on weight usually means a focus on deprivation, which can’t be sustained, hence leading to poor long-term results.

Instead, focus on your health. Prioritise resolving niggling symptoms such as PMT, headaches, constipation, a bloated tummy, or a skin condition and watch how, as they improve, weight loss is the result (if body fat is something you need to let go of). Or focus on increasing your energy or feeling happier. The parts of your body that sadden or frustrate you are simply messengers asking you to eat, drink, move, think, breathe, believe or perceive in a new way. See them as the gifts that they are.

3. Try restorative practices

If you live on stress hormones, your body can think your life is in danger and sex hormone balance can be compromised. Embracing breath-focused practices can help reassure your body you are “safe” and allow your body to make its own progesterone, which doesn’t only have roles to play with reproduction, but acts as a powerful anti-anxiety agent, an anti-depressant and a diuretic. When progesterone is too low, women can feel like they are not themselves. Embrace tai chi and/or restorative yoga.

The 6 Secrets to Believing You’re an Expert Health Coach

6 secrets to being a health coaching expert

One of the biggest statements I hear from the new Health Coaches I mentor is, “I don’t feel confident enough to portray myself as an expert.” The word, “expert” is loaded with all sorts of insecurity-raising vibes that trigger feelings about our self-worth and am-I-good-enough-ness.

Remember, you only have to be two steps ahead of someone to help them. That doesn’t give you instant expert status, but it does serve as a reminder that your starting point is already ahead of those who want your help.

Let’s explore some of my secrets to believing in yourself and your worth as a Health Coach:

SECRET #1: Being comfortable about what being an expert means is key

According to Dictionary.com, the definition of an expert is:  A person who has special skill or knowledge in some particular field.

Yes. That’s literally what an expert is. I bet you would agree that you have special skills or knowledge as a Health Coach.

Firstly, you have a qualification. Secondly, I’m sure you mostly know what you’re talking about when it comes to the area of the wellness industry you’re passionate about.

To get yourself feeling a little better about this, I’d like you to write down everything you know about being a Health Coach.

Then write down the skills you have. Finish off with what areas of health and well-being you believe you know more about than most.

Read over what you’ve written and notice how much better you feel about what being an expert means.

SECRET #2: Following experts gives you a great reference point for your own expert-ness

You’ve probably already got a few Health Coaches who inspire you that you follow. If you haven’t yet, you’ll find a list over at my blog about Getting Started as a Health Coach

Have a look at how they brand themselves. What skills do they have? What knowledge do they share? What do they do that makes them look like an expert? Can you do what they’re doing? What would you need to do to do what they’re doing?

The crucial key here is to not fall into 'comparison' but instead see what you admire in them as possible for you. Success leaves clues!

Are you enjoying this post so far? Click the button below to get my FREE checklist to help you see how much of an expert you already are in your coaching business!

SECRET #3: Believing your self-talk about not having enough experience holds you back

Every expert started out with no experience. We all have to start somewhere. Don’t let your self-talk about this hold you back.

Marie Forleo, who created her multimillion dollar socially conscious empire from scratch, started her own coaching business when she was just 23 years old.  She says she coached everybody who’d let her - for free.

Sometimes it’s about doing what you can to get that uber-valuable, first-hand experience that’s going to make you feel more like an expert in your field (and even some testimonials on your website).

The fact that you have a qualification means you’ve got plenty to work with to start building experience.

Take 5 minutes and watch Marie’s take on wanting to be a coach HERE

SECRET #4: There is huge power in creating a daily mantra and using affirmations

I highly recommend a daily mantra to go with your morning routine. Mantras can help you stay focused on your dream when the going gets tough or your monkey mind starts to chime in telling you you're not good enough. Mantras actually help to reprogram the subconscious mind aswell, so over time you WILL believe the manta, even if you feel a little crazy at the beginning.

If you’re after some affirmation ideas, here are 10 Self-Affirmations to Hack Self-Confidence Daily or check out one of the many wonderful books by Louise Hay.

SECRET #5: Developing your coaching material sets an expert intention

If you have a toolkit planned for your coaching clients, or a program outline, get working on developing the materials so that you feel like you’re ready to impart your knowledge and skills with something to back you up.

Often the reason new coaches don't feel confident is that they just haven't yet taken this next step in the journey of pulling all of their knowledge into one reliable toolkit. When I teach this in the UPswing Mastermind, new coaches are often shocked to realise just how much knowledge they are sitting on.

SECRET #6: Getting it wrong is part of the journey

Everyone makes mistakes. They are the best way to fine-tune things as you move forward in your coaching business.

One of the quickest ways to grow as a Health Coach is to notice where you went wrong, and then decide how you’re going to do it differently the next time.

Your clients don’t know what you’re going to say, so they probably won’t even realise you’ve done or said anything wrong if you happen to make a mistake during a coaching session. Acknowledge it to yourself. Check in on why it happened and what you could have done to act differently. Make a decision to try an improved way next time. Move on.

Don’t forget to get my FREE checklist to help you see how much of an expert you already are in your coaching business. Just click the button below!

Remember that you are a coach - not a doctor, naturopath or specialist. You are meant to 'coach' not be a walking dictionary on every single health issue known to man. So be kind to yourself and embrace the role of a Health Coach to bring about your own unique contribution to the world.

Feeling low in confidence is the number one reason I see new coaches waste far too long sitting on the sidelines. We all have to go through the 'beginner' stage, but the quicker we dive in, the quicker we will start to grow into the expert we desire to be.

There are no shortcuts, so dive on in today!

6 Definitive Steps to Getting Started as a Health Coach

6 Steps to Getting Started as a Health Coach

I’m excited to share my take on the steps to getting started as a Health Coach. It’s a question that everyone asks once they’ve made the decision to turn their passion for wellbeing into a successful and rewarding business.

Not long after the excitement of deciding to become a coach, along comes a whole wave of new information to learn about how to actually run a coaching business.

We can hardly open our computers these days without being bombarded with a million and one conflicting tips on how to get started and a bunch of overnight success stories leaving us all feeling like somehow we’re missed the boat and might as well give up before we start.

I want you to know that there is no hurry and there is plenty of room for you too. You have an important message to share with the world and in right time you too will be making the impact (and money) you desire.

While I want to dispel the myth that your business should magically bloom overnight, I equally want to gently remind you that standing on the sidelines in overwhelm is helping no-one.

So below are the 6 steps I recommend you take right away to set the foundations for your business in a way that will bring you long-term joy and freedom.

6 Definitive Steps to Getting Started as a Health Coach

Believing you can be successful at what you’re being called to do is a powerful first step.

Beliefs are thoughts that you keep thinking. If you change your thoughts about something, your beliefs shift, too.

If you’re having trouble with this, make a list of 5 or more things you’ve done well in your life. Give yourself that confidence boost to stay on track.

Yes, health and wealth do go together in the same sentence! You can create the life you want through your health coaching business, so don’t sell yourself short when you’re thinking about starting out.

If you have a vision board, start filling it up with pictures and words about what you want your life to look like. This will help keep you focused on WHY you’re doing this (you’re not only changing other people’s lives; you’re changing your OWN life).

Read about How Much You Can Charge as a Health Coach to get an idea of the value you’re going to be adding to clients’ lives, and how much that’s worth to them.

Follow a Health Coach (or as many as you like) that you admire, and take a look at what makes them successful.

Ask yourself what they are doing well, or who they are being, that makes them a success. Do you believe you have any of these qualities and attributes? By affirming you have these, you’re strengthening your belief in your own success.

There are many amazing health coaches rocking it out right now, all in their own unique way - here are a couple of inspiring ladies to get you started:

Get clear on what you want to achieve as a Health Coach. If money and failure weren’t an option, what would you want to achieve?

Once you’ve written down your goals (no matter how far-fetched), chunk them down into smaller goals with action steps that you can take to get there.

Declare publicly (or at least in your inner circle) what your plans are. By telling others what you’ve decided to do, you will feel accountable. How awkward is it when people keep asking you how your plans are going, and you’ve done nothing about them?

Momentum needs a consistent flow of energy, which is most powerful in the form of action. Make sure you’re doing something, anything, that’s moving you toward your goals around being a Health Coach.

So there you have it, the first 6 steps to master when starting your coaching business.  I'd love to hear in the comments below which step you are ready to master.

If you are looking for solid support as you get started on these steps, I walk my clients through these in great detail in my UPswing Mastermind which is the ultimate way to build your business. Doors are currently closed for the UPswing Mastermind until 2016 but you can join the waitlist here to be the first to hear when doors open.

In the meantime, pop on over to my Healthy Wealthy Society facebook group to connect with me and many new like-minded friends who are building their coaching businesses too.

7 ways to Stop Self-Sabotage in your Business

7 Ways to Stop self sabotage in your business

I'm back in Sydney after 2 glorious weeks in Bali - seriously I think Bali is THE perfect holiday spot in the world. Warm, sunny, loving people, raw food and yoga galore! #bliss

A key thought that arose for me when I stopped 'working' while on holiday was that I personally have a deep knowing that you are MEANT to get your health work out to the world now - the world is so ready for what you have to offer - and I think deep down you know this too.

So why then would you keep getting in your own way???

On one hand you want nothing more than to build your business and help as many people as possible. On the other hand, you seem to keep going round in circles.

Frustrating right?!

I hear you! For way too long I was stuck in my head trying to 'work it all out'. When I changed my mindset to believe that I was MEANT to be getting my work out to the world and am ALWAYS SUPPORTED in doing so, then I started trusting and taking imperfect action despite my fears.

You see we have a sneaky monkey-mind (or Ego) that likes to jump in and fill us with fear when venturing into this new territory of business.

The monkey mind tells us 'nothing is working', 'it's not going to work for you', 'you are not expert enough yet', 'who do you think you are to charge for this' and on it goes.... Creating a barrage of negative thoughts that keep you playing small.

Listening to our Monkey-Mind causes us to Self-Sabotage!

But what if those monkey-messages were not the truth?

What if you got out of your own way and started taking imperfect action in your business every day KNOWING that you are MEANT to do this and are fully supported?

How would you act differently if this were to change?

For me this changed everything and today I wanted to share with you 7 things I do regularly that keep me building my business from my heart, not my head.

1. Journalling
- I started journalling 3 pages a day after learning 'Morning Pages' from Julia Cameron's book The Artists Way about 9 years ago and have never stopped. It is my number one go-to for getting everything out of my head and onto paper.

2. Meditation
- I alternate in my approaches to Meditation depending on what I am focusing on or working through. I was recently introduced to the new 1 Giant Mind phone app which I am LOVING. Daily meditation will change your approach to your business dramatically, and the app is perfect to pull out any time of the day if you catch yourself being run by Mr Monkey Mind.

3. Working Out
- I have realised that there is a direct link to my Monkey Mind playing up when I am not regularly exercising. For the last year I have committed to my exercise routine by having my Personal Trainer come to me at home twice a week, and whenever possible I love to take the afternoon off to walk around the rocks with a girlfriend.

3. Yoga
- When we spend so much time in our heads, we can literally get stuck there. Yoga connects me back to my body, heart and breathe like clockwork. I have a wee yoga corner set up in my office to practise Restorative Yoga which is my favourite and I have done several yoga retreats this year to deeply reset, let go and connect to MY truth.

4. Angel Cards
- Every morning and night I pull an Angel Card (or other card deck) to help me connect to my inner guidance. I also work with these when coaching to remind myself and my clients to get out of our own way. My favourite card decks for business are 'Success Cards' by Deepak Chopra and 'Money and the Law of Attraction' cards by Esther and Jerry Hicks.

5. Taking Proper Breaks
- The catch-cry of the coaching industry can be 'work from anywhere' and while I CAN do that, in general I choose not to. Why? Because when I book a holiday it is important to me to have time completely disconnected. I do regularly work in different locations around the world, but I set clear boundaries on what is 'work' and what is a 'break'. I spent the last 2 weeks in Bali and the first week was work, the second a complete break. Weekends are also breaks and other than during 'launch periods', I don't work at night. Work smart and hustle when you are 'on' and then allow yourself to properly turn 'off'.

6. Intention Setting with Essential Oils
- Essential Oils can quickly change your emotional state. I work with the highest quality oils and my favs are labelled with an intention which I believe works on 2 fronts. First by the power of my thought behind using that oil and secondly the vibration in the oil itself. My fav oils are made by my friend Michelle of Sacred Self -  'Abundance', 'Passion', 'Truth' and 'Self Love' are some of my favs to work with in business.

7. Reading Books on Wealth Consciousness
- Approaching business and money from an energy perspective is a great way to get out of our heads and connect with the bigger picture. A couple of my go-to books are 'The Science of Getting Rich' by Wallace D Wattles, 'Money a Love Story' by Kate Northrup and 'Sacred Success' by Barbara Stanny.

On top of these tools, I always find that remembering that my work is not 'about me' and keeping focused on how I can serve those who need it most is key in staying out of my own way and creating self-sabotage.

I'd love to hear in the comments below which of these techniques you are going to commit to for yourself. And please share any of your own tips on how you overcome self-sabotage in your business.

Have you ever done this?

Have you ever done this

So here's the thing...

I have a bit of a thing for stationery.

My husband has a rule: “No more journals until you have used all of the others”.

Of course I never listen.

I always have several journals on the go. Personal journals for daily intentions, nighttime journaling and thoughts and meanderings. And stacks of notebooks to write client notes as I coach, lesson notes for UPswing Mastermind modules and blog post ideas.

Then of course I have lots of fancy to-do list notepads. (Even though I now work purely from Asana, sometimes it’s nice to just rewrite the tasks for the day on good ole fashioned pretty paper don’t you think? ;-)

Now here’s the thing, despite having a love for stationery – in general I always bought the ‘sensible’ goods. Maybe the odd fancy diary or planner from Kikki K (awesome stationery shop here in Australia) or fun notepad from Typo, but in general most things are from Officeworks - practical, sensible and cheap.

For almost a year I walked past my favourite homeware shop each morning which stocks the most AMAZING Kate Spade designer stationery.

OMG – have you seen it’s gorgeousness?

Pretty gold staplers, fancy pencils with inspiring quotes and notebooks made of Kate Spade signature prints.

But did you know, for almost a year I walked past that shop every morning and despite no doubt physically drooling as I forced my eyes away from the window – somehow I never noticed that I WANTED that stuff.

Hmm, yes, kinda obvious now.

But I was so programmed to not even ‘dream’ of spending money on such ‘frivolous’ items that it honestly never logically occurred to me to consider purchasing.

It didn’t even cross my logical mind that I ‘could’!

So a few weeks back I went in and spent $250 on the most BEAUTIFUL Kate Spade stationery (Yes I bought half the range). And every day at my desk (or at the café as it was this week), I am getting to enjoy the beauty of these little works of art.

My friend and photographer Wendy K Yalom talks about ‘personal attraction factor’. By this she means we simply are attracted to and desire what our eye goes to, but for most of us we second guess ourselves and over think things waaayyyyy too much.

We block out the possibility that what we are window shopping for is something that is ‘meant’ for us!

Can you relate?

The truth is that desires are meant to be lived, they are who we are – they are not meant to be shoved down tight as ‘not for you’….

Let me know in the comments below, are there things you desire in life that perhaps you haven't even considered you could have?
