Got a Blood Test Recently & Why It's IMPORTANT for Health Coaches

Good morning! I'm definitely feeling freshness and a "Hey, let's do it energy!" in the air right now. And the reason I actually just wanted to pop in is that I actually was just up the road this morning, getting a blood test.

I have been about 85% vegan for the last month, which is not how I normally eat, for the reason of trying to reduce my iron levels. I found out a couple of years ago, that I had this gene, which means I find it very hard to lose iron and get too much iron. And around last month when a doctor told me to take that seriously. She asked me to go predominantly vegan or vegetarian for a month and go back and get the blood test.

So it's exactly a month, I went out this morning when I got my blood tested. I was sitting there and the lady who takes the blood was just kind of chattering away. And she started telling me about how many people come in here now, over the last couple of years, basically doing their own health work. She said so many people are not getting the answers that they want. You have no idea how many people are coming in and telling me that they weren't getting answers from the doctors. The doctors just wanted to give the medicine. She said you've got no idea how many people will do anything, not to take medicine.

And so she has seen it, a change in society in the last couple of years, where people are researching themselves. She said they're online. They're looking up medical things, they're getting books. And basically, showing up and telling the doctors, "I want this tested and I'm going to go away and look after my own health for a couple of months. And I want you to test this again in a couple of months." And they tell her time and time again, the doctor was blown away. The doctor told me they've never seen this before.

And this is happening. This is absolutely happening that people are out there. They don't want medicine. They know that what the mainstream doctors are prescribing or giving is not feeling true. It's not feeling enough. They know there's more. And so out there, doing our own research, doing our own investigation and really going in and asking for these tests and monitoring, taking charge of our own health. We are no longer happy, just to say, "Give me a pill" and kind of give our power away to the medical professionals.

We're taking our power back. We're taking our power back in our own health. We're finding our own answers. We're understanding what's happening to our own bodies.

And we're willing to do the work that it takes on a self-care level, on a real cellular level. And we know it's not just a medicine, a pill, or an injection. We know that it's holistic — it's everything from our thoughts, our mindset, our environment, our nutrition, our exercise, our movement — and we're willing to do the work it takes and we're getting results.

So I'm curious, cause I don't know about you, but since I found out a couple of years ago about my condition, no one told me to take it seriously. I didn't even look into it. It was only last month when my new doctor said, that it's something that may have caused my fatigue the whole way through.

Now I've been reading everything. Like I literally have a book next to me called Fat for Fuel by Dr Joseph Mercola. Side story: I was at the airport the other day and I ran in a bit of a weird story, had to run backwards through security to get a book. I got to the front of the line with two books and the lady said to me, "Did you know that it's three for the price of two?" So I'm at the front of this long queue, but of course, I want the free book. And I just picked this up off the shelf. I opened it literally in this busy airport, opened it to this page about exactly what we're talking about here, which is too much iron.

So Dr Joseph Macola talks about too much iron being one of the hidden pieces that so many people don't know about. It's one of the biggest dangers that a lot of people do store too much. I know we've all heard about, too little iron, et cetera and the importance of understanding that. Ever since I was opened my eyes to a potential issue of having too much iron. I do my own research. I've also read somewhere that turmeric can actually bring iron levels down although I haven't tried it yet. I don't know if anyone's into oils, turmeric oil could do the same. But ultimately for a month, I've been testing pretty much no meat. I'm going to admit that over Christmas, I gave in a little, but pretty much have kept me out of my diet for a month. And I will say on a surface level, I'm feeling really good, which is a little bit annoying to me because, in my belief mindset, I didn't want to be vegetarian again. (That's a story for another day.)

I'm curious, is that how you live too? You know, once you hear something, we go and research and look for the books. Things even come to us, we're looking for solutions. We're not just going back to the doctor. I mean, the doctor said to me that the basic prescription for this is we just take a whole lot of blood out of you but I don't want to do that. I want to try these other options. And luckily I had a doctor who said go away and try your new nutrition for a month. So I will get back to you, I'm dying to know, what a month of being vegan did to my iron levels.

But I'm curious, I'd love to know, first of all, is this what you are doing in your life? What the nurse told me this morning, "Are you out there doing your own research?" Is this what brought you to health coaching? I'm really, really curious to know how many of you had your own health issue that you found wasn't being answered by doctors or by the medical professionals, and you took things into your own hands. Where you bought your own power back. You started listening to your own body. You started allowing the coincidence, like the books to come in. Your own knowledge and research. Are you listening to the podcasts? Are you searching online and is that what led you to want to become a health coach? I'm really curious.

For me, going back five or six years ago when I started to see changes in my own health, from my own self-care practices, from changes in my mindset, from changes in my diet, that doctors hadn't been able to give me answers too, for many, many years. And that was what led me to train, to be a health coach and one for my own deeper knowledge so I can start to share that with other people. I don't think I am alone in this, but I'd love to hear it from you.

if there's one thing that I know is that health coaching is going to be mainstream in years to come.

And that can seem so weird to say because it's not now. So how are we going to get there later? But the patterns are starting to play out in society. And this nurse has no idea what I do for work. She'd have no reason to start telling me that morning.

I start seeing these patterns time and time again, society is wanting answers and their health, and they don't want to be told what to do and be prescribed something.

They want to be actually supported, to find the answers for themselves. Now that's a conversation for us why we should not be playing the role of a doctor or not be prescribing and all of these different things. But for today, is this the way you are taking action on your own health these days?

  • Reading the books

  • Going on the internet

  • Doing your own research.

  • Gone forward and asked your doctors to take your own blood tests

Have you experienced things in your own health that you learned yourself through your research that would not be prescribed and answers weren't coming to you from the mainstream? I'm really curious to know. What led you to health coaching and what led you to want to get this work out for others?

So let's start a thread, let's hear some stories about your own experience with holistic health and health coaching. Any interactions why you have come this way versus the mainstream medicine. And what are your motivations for becoming a health coach? Let's have some conversations around this today. Have a beautiful day!

Love,

Amanda xx
