In this post: Let’s talk about some big social media mistakes to avoid if you’re looking for one-on-one clients.

I don’t think I’ve worked with a single wellness practitioner who hasn’t asked me for the SECRETS to build an engaged community interested in their services.

What Matters Most When It Comes To Attracting Health Coaching Clients on Social Media

Let's talk about some big social media mistakes to avoid if you are looking for one-on-one clients.

Tell me if this sounds familiar: You spend so much time putting together beautiful and thoughtful Instagram or Facebook posts, even a series of posts to let people know that you're open for business, taking health coaching clients now and that you're ready to help them. You're convinced people will see your posts and this is going to be a hit. And then you get up the courage, got it all together – you hit publish. And hours go by… silence, crickets. Maybe some close friends and family do come by and drop a polite “like”, and then the panic sets in.

You're feeling a little bit exposed. Maybe you put yourself out there and didn't get the response that you had hoped. And now, it's really tempting to go back into hiding. Maybe you start to wonder what you're doing wrong, second guess your message, find yourself holding yourself back from posting about this again the next day and all of a sudden, the next day, the next day, the next day, right?

If this kind of scary story is resonating, let me start by saying: You are not alone. Everyone works through this positive anxiety. In fact, I was talking to one of my best friends in the car last night on the way home from our dance class. And this happened to her just last week as a seasoned entrepreneur. So it happens to us all.

But I especially don't think I've ever worked with a single wellness professional, who's getting started online, who hasn't come to me and said, “What are the secrets to building a more engaged community that are actually interested in their services?” Because this is key. There are brilliant, but frustrated people who assume that people are judging them for their posts and would never buy from them. But the harsh reality is, this assumption is actually what then goes on to sabotage their business.

Being afraid of being judged or being afraid of being too visible can hold you back.

The expectation that people are going to flock to you after you put out your first handful of posts is just not effective and especially not in this year and beyond in social media. You need a social media strategy that meets you where you are right now and is aimed at doing what matters the most, which is connecting you with your ideal clients – those who are eager to get on the phone with you. The real key is about getting them on the phone.

The truth is, most people just aren't going to put up their hand to work with you the first time you post. But don't let that trick you into believing they aren't watching.

In fact, the same girlfriend in the car with us last night, I said to her, “Oh! Can you let your husband know that I'm loving his posts?” Because I actually often see his posts, he's in the wellness space too, but I don't always stop in to like and comment. But I'm watching them. I'm reading them. And I'm often actually telling clients about them and I'm mentioning it here now, right? It doesn't mean people aren't watching just because they haven't engaged in your posts.

Things have changed on social. So I've worked with many wellness practitioners now over the years who post regularly using the social media strategy that I teach in UPswing Mastermind.

And they find that it effectively starts to get people, building clients and getting on the phone. But before they posted and posted, and felt like nothing was happening, even sometimes using the strategy in UPswing Mastermind, sometimes it can feel like nothing's happening too! It's not meant to be that people are flocking with comments.

That's not the way it works online. Often, what I find with my clients in UPswing Mastermind, if they've taken part in my 30-day challenge where we're actually giving them certain things to post in a certain way over 30 days. Then all of a sudden, for example, they're at the school day and people are like, “Oh my God! I've been seeing you everywhere!” “Oh my gosh, your business is doing amazing!” Or maybe people have come up to them and secretly said like, “Hey, you know, I've been watching your posts. Do you think you could help me?” “I've been reading your posts. Can you give me more details?”

And this is where all the action doesn't necessarily happen on the posts and not on the front-facing posts. It's often happening in the conversations either in real person or in your DMs afterwards.

Multiple ideal clients start approaching them when they've been showing up as the expert.

And in fact, a couple of ladies this week in UPswing Mastermind are struggling with being fully booked and it's really a great problem to have, right? And that is just a couple of months into the program because they've known how to put themselves out there in the right way that is having people coming to them.

So imagine what would feel like for you to have people coming to you like that? How would that feel – to know that your ideal clients are going to seek you out because they are moved by your content if we take this measurement of the likes and the comments and the followers, and actually start to measure real impact that leads to paying clients.

How would that feel to know exactly what to post, exactly what to say, see that magic start to come in and it starts really with one key step – showing up.

Then speaking to exactly where your ideal clients are right now, focusing much less on yourself and what you do and talking more to where they are, what they care about. And that's the place where connection happens.

Another couple of clients this week did amazingly in selling their group program. And I noticed their language, it just felt effortless. Like I was just having an effortless conversation.

Once you understand that strategy, it no longer feels like forced marketing or strategy. It actually just becomes natural. And you can show up as yourself knowing that you are ticking essential boxes. So it becomes really beautiful in that way, in my opinion.

I teach how to talk to your client's pain points, desired outcomes and all of those beautiful things in your marketing messaging in the UPswing Mastermind, where you'll get really specific in the target market, magnetic messaging and conversation, how to explain what you do, and more.

Even if you're not doing something like my UPswing Mastermind program with me, the most important thing is that you regularly show up, talk about what you do, tell people how they can work with you. The more likely it is that you keep showing up, you're going to catch their attention. You're going to start showing up in the feed, even if they are not commenting or liking.

That's really, really important to understand. You might be surprised at how many people in your current circle are actively looking for help with sleep habits, meal planning, exercise, routines, and more.

We often think it can't be in my immediate circle. I need to build a big following first, but that's not the order that it happens.

Your ideal clients are people who have a problem that you can help them solve and are actively looking for a change. I have four layers of a target market model that I teach. And we're looking for one of those specific layers, which is someone who's looking to change. You've got to be marketing to someone who's actively wanting to change. Your audience is out there, I promise. You just have to know how to reach them and trust what you have to say and share is of value and worthy of being seen.

Even if you have a seemingly small audience, they can't be your audience until you start showing up consistently, speaking directly to their struggles and showing how you can help them.

Love,

Amanda xx
