Create a Purposeful Package That Sells + Gets Results: The Ultimate Guide for Health Coaches & Wellpreneurs!

Hey there healthy lady!

In this in-depth blog post I’m going to walk you through - top to bottom - how to create your very own unique ‘Purposeful Package’ that sells like gluten-free hotcakes and gets massive results for your clients.

First up, I’m going to explain WHY it’s so important to sell coaching in a Purposeful Package format - especially if you want to make a consistent and significant income as a coach.

Then I’m going to walk you through what to do - step-by-step - to craft one STRONG signature program that you know your ideal client wants to buy, and that you feel confident and excited about delivering.

This is a process, and you’re going to have to do a little work to complete it - so take out a journal, a notebook, and set aside some time to action the steps.

THE BASICS OF PURPOSEFUL PACKAGES

Why sell packages instead of single coaching sessions?

Many health and wellness professionals - including counsellors, acupuncturists, nutritionists, homeopaths, personal trainers, etc. - work in single sessions, where you'll pay say $100 for an hour session, and schedule a follow-up if needed.

As a health coach - or any wellness entrepreneur - this is NOT an approach I recommend.

Instead, you will want to focus on creating a package of sessions that sells an outcome or result, as opposed to simply trading time for dollars.

This not only works better for YOU - it works much better for your clients, because:

  • Your clients will accomplish much more in a purposeful package than in unstructured single sessions…

  • You will get a higher level of commitment and financial security when people buy a package of sessions vs. the occasional single session…

  • You will know what outcome your clients can expect to achieve from working with you, making it much easier to “sell” coaching and promote your services…

  • Your clients will get better results as they are not just paying for 1 hour of your time, they are paying for support, accountability…the whole shebang....

What is a ‘Purposeful’ Package?

Now that you understand the benefits of selling in packages, let’s get clear on the importance of creating PURPOSEFUL packages.

A Purposeful Package is one created to generate a specific result or outcome for your ideal client.

You will design your Purposeful Package with the OUTCOME in mind — knowing that a dream result could never come from one-off coaching.

This might be a 6-week package, a 90-day package, or even a 6-month package!  We're going to throw out any preconceived “formula” that your coaching training might have given you, dictating that your coaching has to be this long or this short.

Instead, we're going to design what YOUR ideal client needs in order to get the best outcome or result.

REMEMBER:

  • You’re no longer selling single sessions. You're now selling a specific outcome.

  • You're no longer selling “health coaching”. You're now selling a specific outcome.

For example: Your package might help someone fit into their wedding dress.... It might help someone overcome insomnia…. It might help someone increase their social media following, heal their skin and digestive issues, learn meditation, or lose weight.

We all know that you can absolutely get WONDERFUL results from health coaching, but a single session is never going to cut it.

And trying to sell single sessions (that won’t get massive results for your clients) is going to leave you feeling stressed, unconfident, and unable to market your services.

You need to put on your expert hat, and you need to assertively say, "It's going to take a purposeful package to get the premium result that you desire here."

Let your prospects know that, "As a health coach, I'm going to be by your side. This is a journey. There's accountability. There’s support. That is what makes this special."

We need to think in this way of a Purposeful Package vs. the old thinking of selling one single session. And we need to get a client actually committed to the journey.

For every coach and target market, that journey will be different — there will be something unique in the way it is packaged up so the client will get the best result.

WHAT ARE YOU SELLING?

To figure our what you are selling, you need to know who you are (and what lights you up), who you are here to serve, what you can offer - THEN find your 'selling point'...

STEP ONE: START WITH YOU

When you design your Purposeful Package, it’s essential that you're not forgetting you — and bringing in the things that you want to do, teach and share into the package.

This enables you to use your talents, passions and unique skills, and it's going to light you up to work with your ideal clients - making it far easier to sell your services, and enjoyable to offer them!

Jot down answers to the following questions:

  • Why do you desire to coach people?

  • Why do you want this type of business?

  • What do you secretly dream of in life?

  • What do you value? Do you have core values?

  • What do you believe about health/food/fitness? (ie: the area you want to coach on)

  • What skills and talents have you developed over the years?

  • What do you have to offer that will be of benefit to your dream client?

Take 10 minutes to jot down some thoughts on a piece of paper or in your journal, to get some clarity around YOUR side of the package, YOUR passions, and YOUR unique skills and desires.

STEP TWO: Then Think About Your Target Market

Now you’re clear on why you desire to coach — and have noted your unique skills and talents, what you have to offer your ideal clients, and what lights you up….

Next we turn our attention to your clients.

Answer the following questions about your target market:

  • My Ideal Client Is:

  • She Is Motivated By:

  • His/Her Key Pain Points Are:

  • What Does She Believe Is The Cause Of Her Pain?

  • What Would Be Her Dream Outcome?

  • She Will Pay Anything For:

  • My Solution Is (Be Specific):

  • She Will Benefit From:

STEP THREE:  Now Bring You & Your Target Market Together

Looking in your journal over the notes on your target market and yourself as a coach, find the sweet spot between what you have to offer, and what your clients want to buy.

Really take some time looking over this and get creative and curious.

When it comes to selling and creating packages, there is something I see a LOT of coaches get stuck on...

And it is this: We as coaches know that our clients need to look “deeper” beyond what they “think” they're struggling with…  (So for example, we may know that their weight issues are related to emotional eating, low self-worth or lack of “primary foods”).

But our client’s don’t know that yet! They just want you to tell them that you can help them lose the weight. They want to know that you can help them move past their pain. They’re not that interested in the “how” at this stage. (Which is what lights YOU up).

This is why it is important to find that “sweet spot” between what YOU know they need (which they might not understand yet) — and where they're at right now.

Tip: Sell Them What They Want + Give Them What They Need

There's a well-known phrase in marketing and it cannot apply more strongly than here. “Sell them what they think they want and give them what they need.”

Selling them what they think they want comes first and foremost…then in your package you deliver them all that they will actually need, as you take them on the journey to healing.

This is one area where a coach is going to often go wrong - because coaches love things like ‘primary foods’ and these more spiritual, soulful concepts that they've learned are super important - and they do not necessarily want to teach weight-loss.

But think about what the client is looking for!! You client wants the end result.  She is NOT coming from the same perspective you are.

Your client is looking for a practical solution to their pain-point. They're looking for the headache pill, the insomnia pill, the stress reliever, the weight-loss pill, the anxiety cure.

STEP FOUR: Pick your selling point

Next we need to do now what I call “finding that selling point.”   The selling point is the sweet spot between what they think they want, and what you know they need.

Really your ideal package is absolutely everything that you want to teach — and that you know they will need to reach their desired outcome — but it still needs sell them what they actually want.

So for example:  Your package might have a little bit on weight-loss, which is your main selling point.

But actually you're also going to help them see what's going on at work, or their relationships, or their exercise, or their mindfulness. All of that can go in your package — but the selling point would be weight-loss, if that's what your client really thinks they want.

You don't hide the rest of it, but the main piece that you are selling would be weight-loss. Or could also be stress management. It could be mindfulness. You need to be very specific on what's the ONE selling point of your package.

The piece that will sell, the piece that someone will see valuable and pay money for is a solution to their perceived pain point. I say “perceived” pain point. You might see there's something more going on — but we need to sell a solution to what the client thinks is the main issue.

Think of it was the WHAT you’re selling vs. the HOW you get your client there.

You sell the WHAT and deliver the HOW.

DESIGN YOUR PURPOSEFUL PACKAGE

Step one: WRITE DOWN the details

Pull out your journal or a pen and paper, and jot down your answers to the following:

  • What type of program would excite you to offer your dream client? 1:1 coaching, group coaching, a self-study e-course?

  • How long would be enjoyable for you? 3 months, 6 weeks, 1 year, 6 months?

  • How long and what container would get the greatest benefit for your client? Would they get best results in 6 months?

Here's an example of these Qs in a real-life context...

Would you like to work in a six-month container, but actually your clients might only need three weeks to get the desired outcome for your clients? Do you not like commitment? You only want to a four-week package, but actually, if you're honest, the client needs eight weeks.  There's no right or wrong answer here. I just like to journal about it for this exercise.

  • How often might you need to meet for coaching sessions?

Again, you don't have to write three times a week or six times. Just journal about it. It might be fun if we met weekly, but there might be this pro and there might be this con. What about if it was bi-weekly? Start to explore these concepts and these questions.

  • How long might each session be?

Would you like to do 30-minute sessions because your clients are ultra busy… or actually do they need a longer 60-minute session to get more results?

Diving even deeper, what could you actually get done in that amount of time? Will the overall package that you're thinking about be enough time to get results?

Any thoughts that all go into this journaling exercise, anything around how you can design your package so it's really appealing to your ideal clients.

  • What's going to make them want it?

  • What makes them tick and what's going to excite them to buy a package?

  • What's going to make your package unique?

You are unique, and you don't need to worry about how you fit in (or stand out) amongst the other coaches out there, as long as you’re being yourself — but at the same time, it's great to feel that our package does have that something special or a little uniqueness to it. ;-)  Any thoughts you might have around that just journal them in this stage.

  • Is your package designed to help your clients to master one thing?

  • Or is it for you clients to get a high touch on a lot of little things?

If anything comes up as you're journaling on this exercise that you don't have answers for, make a little side note so that you can go out and ask some ideal clients.  If you’re not sure, ask people what they think! Never assume you know what your clients want. For example, you can ask them:

  • What would they be expecting if they worked with coach?

  • What time frame would they be most likely to buy?

  • What kind of accountability would they want?

Step TWO: create your program drafts

Remember, beauty. You really DO have power to help someone with a huge benefit with the skills and experiences that you've had in your life.

Now you get to now create your own ideal package and program that your dream client will love to receive and you will love to deliver.

Think through the following questions:

  • How often might you meet? Is it going to be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly even?

  • How long will each session be? 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes?

  • What can you accomplish in each container of time and checking in, will this package really allow enough time to get results?

  • How can you design this package and split into these pieces of pie as such so that it's really going to be great for both you and the client?

  • What is that result or outcome worth to your client?

  • What makes this package unique?

(In a coaching package, more is not always better - it's just about finding the right fit for both you and the client to get the desired outcome…)

Figure out your program specifics.

Now you can start to draft up your package and the specifics of those now.

Picture breaking up your client’s journey into individual pieces, almost like a recipe to be released step-by-step — and map out the natural process of taking your client from (A) to (B).

Experiment with what pricing truly feels right for you.

Map out what topics you could cover in each session. Then add any notes that you might write in here as well are along the lines of what you'd like the client to be doing as homework in-between sessions.

STEP THREE: GET FEEDBACK from ideal clients

At this stage, you should have 3 or 4 draft packages written up.  Keep running these past your ideal clients and ask what they think.

Do you think will they buy this? Is this actually something they would pay money for? Will they be interested and excited to join this program?

Don't be afraid to ASK— especially if you can find a few friends or colleagues who are potential ideal clients.   Don't ever ASSUME your ideal clients are going to buy the package, just ask them! Keep testing. Keep refining.

Never be afraid to look like a beginner or like you're not expert enough. This actually makes you more of an expert by being professional enough to test things out before going to far with this.

FINALISE YOUR PURPOSEFUL PACKAGE

Now is the time to decide:

  • Which package really lights you up?

  • Which one makes you feel like you would feel amazing to deliver it?

  • Which package resonates best with your ideal clients when you run it past them, and chat to them or talk to them about it?

Remember your package needs to offer a solution to a pain point for your ideal clients. Ultimately, they've got to WANT to buy it.

Have you created a package that answers an important pain-point and delivers a solution, result or outcome? Are you clear on your selling point?

Then you are good to go.

Tip: Let go of perfect!

Ultimately, I want to remind you that absolute clarity on this will only truly come when you get in the game.

You can't wait on the sideline, waiting to get a perfect package because honestly, you need one right now that you're pretty confident is going to work, you'll enjoy, is going to get results for clients...

And the only way to find out is to actually get out there and sell it and start coaching that package. I guarantee you will refine it as you go.

Absolute clarity can only really come once you're in the game.

Which package are you going to use to get in the game & start supporting clients with?

You want to get really clear on the following points:

  • What are the benefits of your package?

  • What are the key results and outcomes?

  • How many sessions are included?

  • What are the session topics?

  • What is the cost or investment?

  • What payment plans are you going to offer?

Once you have this really tight little checklist of what your package is about, now you can use these exact words to carry over into your sales pages or marketing content, or even just for the words when you're talking with potential clients!! You'll be able to easily explain what you're doing and what you're selling.

You’ve now got a Purposeful Package that solves your target market's pain points and truly excites you to deliver!

Amanda xx

How To Be Your Own CEO and Get More Done as an Entrepreneur

Amanda_Jane_Daley_Business_Mentor_How_To_Be_Your_Own_CEO.png

Hey beauty! 💗

Business and entrepreneurship can get super-serious and all-encompassing sometimes, can’t they? And honestly, when they take up ALL of your time, energy and attention - it can make you kinda boring. #tunnelvision

I started feeling this way earlier in the year — so I intentionally planned a trip of FUN and connection, to people and places which have nothing to do with my job.

Yes, I am still coaching as I travel, and part of the trip is actually for a mastermind with other entrepreneurs — but two weeks were carved out purely for time with my family, and 5 days just with my husband.  It feels really great to focus on what matters most.

And I know I’m not alone in getting swept up in entrepreneurship sometimes either!

Starting and running your own business (even on the side!) can feel like a more-than full-time gig — often leaving no time to enjoy the things you want to do.

But don’t worry…

You don’t HAVE to book a holiday to help bring back some balance and self-care into your life. Although you totally can! 😉You can ALSO book yourself a CEO date each week.

A weekly CEO date can help you:

  • Be more efficient and effective with your time…

  • Get more done in your business…

  • Have more time for the (other) things you love…

How To Stay Healthy While You're Building Your Biz

Hey healthy lady!

I completely understand the demands of balancing:

  • Family...

  • Children...

  • Spouse...

  • Clients...

  • Continued study...

  • Making money...

  • Building your business...

I am right there with you, and so are the ladies in my UPswing Mastermind and UPswing Momentum programs...

So I asked these women to share their top tips for staying healthy (and happy!) while building a coaching business, and they offered up some excellent advice.

These are women who for the past 6-12 months have been working hard to build their businesses - all while balancing the demands of work, study, family & entrepreneurship.

(For those that don't know, UPswing Mastermind is my stage 1 program for beginner health coaches, and UPswing Momentum is my stage 2 implementation program for coaches & heart-fuelled emerging leaders.)

Here are their top tips for staying healthy while you're building your biz...

Make time for you

You hear that? Make time for YOU. I was definitely feeling overwhelm at one stage with kids, clients, running the business, doing Upswing Mastermind - and felt like I wasn't really walking my talk as a health coach. But once I learnt to create some space for myself (which was kind of difficult at first) I realised how important it was!

Making time to just chill and not think about the business, means that when I do, I'm more focused and productive. Learning to fill up your own tank is ESSENTIAL when you are giving so much.

- Melissa Lowe, UPswing Mastermind

SET BOUNDARIES

My main tip for staying healthy while building your business is setting boundaries. I was saying 'yes' to everything and everyone - mostly out of excitement and my desire to grow my business - and found that it was really burning me out! So I've begun to set boundaries in terms of my scheduling, commitments, and how much of my time I give away. It's made a world of difference.

- Christina Tidwell – UPswing Momentum

healthy meal planning & prepping is a must!

My number one tip is to PLAN AHEAD!  Meal planning and prepping has been an absolute LIFESAVER for me while juggling building my business, and taking care of two toddlers...with another baby on the way!

I plan two weeks of meals in advance and do one big shop - then I just have to top up the fresh fruit and veggies.  I prep healthy snacks, and make double at most meals to keep things as easy as possible. And I keep it interesting by trying at least a couple of new recipes and meals each time.

Building a business is hard work and it’s important for me to fuel my body with the right foods, and stay on top of my energy levels.  There's no time for the 3pm crash round here! ;-) If you have healthy food on hand and ready to go, then healthy food is convenience food - and the temptation to reach for the not-so-healthy option isn't there.

- Kylie Kerehoma, UPswing Mastermind

Self-care first, business second

Self-care first, business second. Rest assured, this isn’t counter-intuitive. In fact, when we really connect to ourselves - and our purpose for our business - it becomes intuitive to nurture ourselves first.

After all, you are your business!  Without beautiful you, there would be no business at all. Let’s not forget that. So look after you by prioritising 'you-time' into your every day - for at least one hour. And watch as you become more creative and aligned, and business starts to flow.

Sally Jane Douglas, UPswing Mastermind

allocate set hours for your biz

My top tip is to create boundaries by allocating set hours to your work. Creating time boundaries like this has allowed time for myself... time for my family... my part-time work... AND my own business. It ensures I am productive within the time that I have allocated to my business, and ensures that my own physical and mental health remains top of mind.

- Melinda Benstead, UPswing Momentum

prioritise your to-do list to maintain balance

My top tip would be to prioritise your to-do list... making sure that YOU are on it!  It was clear to me that I would not be able to realistically accomplish EVERYTHING I wanted, while still maintaining a balanced home life.

By organising the most important and relevant tasks to my mission, I was able to push others that weren't - and give myself time to unwind, workout, and shop, cook and prepare healthy foods for myself and my family.

Making myself and family a priority on my to-do list everyday prevented me from letting overwhelm take over, and enabled me to maintain a healthy balance in my life.

- Eleanor Duelley, UPswing Mastermind

Look after your health + wellbeing

I have a busy schedule, but I ALWAYS make sure that I eat well, exercise daily and take time out when I need to. I love getting outdoors every day and the best place is the beach - rain, hail or shine 🌊 - it's so good for the soul!  By looking after my health and wellbeing, it makes such a difference to my day-to-day life, and to my business.

- Fiona Taylor, UPswing Momentum

CELEBRATE WHERE YOU ARE 🎉

Building a business takes time, along with a whole lot of hard work, determination and resilience.  We’re constantly looking ahead, planning our next step, and visualising the future. It’s easy to get frustrated and wish you were further ahead or more successful... especially if you’re comparing yourself to others in the biz.

So my top tip for staying healthy while building your business is to take the time to pause every now and again and celebrate exactly where you are. Recognise how far you’ve come, celebrate your wins, and acknowledge your achievements no matter how small.

- Liz Tiepa, UPswing Mastermind

nourish, move + mastermind 😉

Building a business can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. My #1 tip to stay healthy during this process is to listen to your own body. Our bodies are powerful messengers and always let us know what they want and need. And if you nourish it with a healthy food on regular basis, drinking plenty of fluids, moving your body and taking rest, it will reward you.

It can be easy to get carried away working all day and forget to eat or drink enough liquids and then feel low, lack confidence or lose focus and clarity.  So prepare meals and snacks in advance... find time to have 'me time'... walk/stretch throughout the day... and find your own personal mastermind group, where you can share what's happening and get support - it can be so healing!”

- Alenka Ala, UPswing Mastermind

when you have an 'off' day - be kind to yourself

Be kind to yourself. It's OK to have an off day... or even an off few days. It's tricky juggling everything, and sometimes something has to give. Keep in touch with your support crew (friends, family, your coach, your mastermind community, your peers, etc.) and share what's going on. ASK FOF HELP when you're struggling. Make sure to get out of the house, away from your desk, and do something for you, that brings you joy. And remember, it won't happen overnight, but it will happen!!!

- Kaaren Haywood, UPswing Mastermind

schedule self-care APPOINTMENTS

My number one tip is to schedule self-care appointments for yourself. This has been so important for me and helped me stay sane! I do my best to exercise, eat well and meditate every day. At least once a week I have a relaxing bath, a sauna, a massage or schedule something extra special like that. What's the point of building a health coaching business if my own health is suffering? My wellness is a priority.

- Melanie Hansen, UPswing Momentum

feed your soul + RECHARGE

Make time for activities and people who remind you of who you are at your SOUL level. Spend time with the people who make you laugh - and who take your mind off of the 'business building chatter' that is hard to stop without a worthy distraction. Don't neglect your favourite activities and hobbies that help you feel peaceful and mentally relaxed.

We often feel like we have to business build 24/7... but recharging your body, mind and soul along the way makes for greater energy available to focus on your business.

- Tamara Pulles, UPswing Mastermind

Do work that lights you up

My top tip for staying healthy is make sure you are enjoying your work and keeping in alignment with what you really want. Whenever I step out of alignment with my truest desires my energy drops and I often get sick. When I do what lights me up I'm like an unstoppable cheetah! ;-)

- Amanda Pickering, UPswing Momentum

focus on SLEEP

My number one tip is to focus on sleep. Learn your optimal amount of sleep - and then use a smartphone app to remind you when to go to bed and when to wake up, in order to get that each night. It's simple but powerful!

Michelle Edwards, UPswing Mastermind

Check in with your ENERGY + plan accordingly

Check in with your energy levels and stress levels and schedule or plan accordingly. Where possible offset stress with exercise, meditation or fun activities that neutralise the negative accumulative effects of stress.

Also remember that different activities require different types of energy, focus and mindset.  After working with clients, I like to schedule some time out to reset and re-energise... always being conscious of not booking too many sessions in a row. And working at the computer for long sessions can also become draining, so I love to mix things up and schedule 'time-outs' from technology.

Lastly, I find that I have different energy levels at different times within my monthly cycle - and I like to really tune in and listen to that, and schedule my weeks with either more activities or more self-care. This can be a hugely powerful insight.

- Carolyn Daley, UPswing Mastermind

PUT SELF-CARE IN YOUR BUSINESS PLAN

My top tip is to make self-care a part of your business plan - just like the other tasks on your list. That includes quiet time, optimal nourishment, movement, and breathing outside. It's the most important part of being able to help others, because it keeps you in alignment to be able to hold a healing space.

Top Tips for Starting a Health Coaching Business While You're Still Working

Hey healthy lady!

Many women start their health coaching business or join my programs while working full or part-time jobs.  It is absolutely possible - even preferable! - to start a coaching practice while you're still working.

The key to success lies in being laser-focused with the time you DO have, and prioritising client-attraction and income-generating activities.

For example, getting in front of your ideal clients, telling them what you do, positioning yourself as an expert, and asking for the dance (aka: inviting them to discovery sessions).

It is very easy to spend hours tinkering “behind the scenes” on your website, or perfecting your business cards - but actually MARKETING your business consistently is how you will succeed.

The great news is, you can definitely do that in 1-3 hours a day. You do NOT need to be working on/in your business for 8 hours a day to be successful - especially when you’re first starting out.

I asked the women in my latest UPswing Mastermind & UPswing Momentum programs to share their top tips for starting a coaching business while still working...

They offered up some excellent advice, which I'm excited to share with you today.

(For those that don’t know UPswing Mastermind is my stage 1 program for beginner health coaches and UPswing Momentum is my stage 2 implementation program for coaches and heart-fuelled emerging leaders.)

Read how THEY made it happen + get their top tips:

“I was working full time for the first 18 months of being a health coach. I made it happen by seeing clients one or two evenings per week, and working on my business during my 2.5 hour daily commute. That meant that I still had at least one day a week free to rest, and I got over 10 hours of focused work done on my business each week. And honestly, that was all I needed at the beginning. My biggest tip is find pockets of time (even if it's just half an hour!) and be laser focused on what you are doing in that time - and how it brings you closer to your goals.”

“When I first started my business, I was working 4 days a week with a 2.5 hour round-trip commute. I allocated one night per week plus time on the weekend for clients, and was able to use the commute to work on my business. I set goals each week, and used my commute time to work towards achieving those.  Doing this while commuting freed up my time after work for my family and myself!  Even now, when I'm no longer commuting and have the freedom of working from home, I set aside dedicated time and hours for my business to ensure I get stuff done.”

Melinda Benstead, UPswing Momentum

“I made the time in my daily calendar for the hours I wanted to do health coaching alongside my current job - and stuck to them. I find that working while I start my business is helping me manage my income. I’ve also found that putting parameters around exactly when I do health coaching (eg: what days and hours I work on and on/in my business) in these early stages gives me time to prepare while the hours aren't full of clients yet - so I’m learning how to keep my time well-managed.”

Michelle Edwards, UPswing Mastermind

“I've put my other job into a freelance wrapper so I can pick and choose how much or how little I work… I'm very lucky to have that as an option. I am also a huge fan of the power of 20 minutework blocks. Try them and see for yourself!!”

- Margriet van Nieuwburg, UPswing Mastermind

"The more I learnt in the Mastermind, the more I wanted to work on my business and visibility! But with kids... work... family... that wasn't always possible. I started feeling stressed about it, until Amanda reminded me to get into reality. I did have the time - but only if I made space for it.
And most importantly, I needed to make time to look after myself! Once I prioritised self-care, things fell into place a lot easier. Having set times to work on my business and sticking to those as much as possible was very helpful; as was asking for help when I needed it. And remembering it’s not a race!”

Melissa Lowe, UPswing Mastermind

“I decided that if I want my business to work, I have to get serious and dedicate some set time to it. So I started going to bed earlier - which allowed me to get up at 6am and work on my business until 7:30am. In the evening I also do work from 8pm to 9:30pm. So I consistently do 3 hours of work on my business a day. My house is a little messy now, but that's how life is! You have to find time for what's important… family, new business and work. I am going to get help with the housework soon!”

- Veronie Anderson, UPswing Mastermind

“I've been working full-time while I start up my coaching business. It has (of course) been a juggle, but the thing that has helped me most has been the Mastermind training and the group support. Both have been amazing in helping me build a rock-solid foundation for my business - within the time that I have available. My pace is slow and steady, and things are falling into place... instead of falling apart!”

12 Top Tips for Getting Clients as a Health Coach

Hey healthy lady!

Today I’ve got something special for you... I asked the women in the most recent UPswing Mastermind and UPswing Momentum programs to share their top tips for getting clients as a Health Coach…and they offered up some excellent advice.

(For those that don't know, UPswing Mastermind is my stage 1 program for beginner health coaches, and UPswing Momentum is my stage 2 implementation program for coaches & heart-fuelled emerging leaders)

These are women who 6- 12 months ago were exactly where you are now… struggling to get clients, and wondering if was really possible to be make money as a Health Coach.

Not anymore! ✨ Scroll down to get their top tips for getting clients, and discover what’s been working best for them...

1.  LET GO & BE YOURSELF

Sometimes we have big expectations for ourselves, and feel like health coaches need to be/act/look/take food pictures (insert whatever verb resonates with you) a certain way.  I'm starting to see that the more I let go of those expectations and stories and just allow myself to BE ME, the more things flow and people are naturally drawn to me.  Let go of all that isn't you and be truly, authentically, unapologetically yourself.

- Joanna Whitney, UPswing Mastermind

2. TELL EVERYONE WHAT YOU DO

I tell absolutely everyone I know what I do — and I got my first 10 clients this way  The ones who are in pain keep coming back and asking questions once they know what I do, and every time I have "asked for the dance” (invited them to a discovery session) I have received a firm yes!

- Lily Potter, UPswing Mastermind

3. HAVE A PURPOSEFUL PACKAGE TO SELL

Having a package to sell has been the most productive way for me to get clients!  Until I had a package I had no idea what I was really selling, or how to talk to people about it. Once I had a package and a tagline, it was so much easier talk to people about what I do, and how I could help them. Especially as designing the package went hand-in-hand with researching my target market. Once I knew what they were struggling with, I could create something that they wanted.

- Melissa Lowe, UPswing Mastermind

4. YOUR STORY IS A SUPERPOWER

Knowing that you can help someone with your own story is the key to helping others.  You can’t fake empathy — and when you can relate with your potential client, the wrapping comes off them so much faster.

- Michelle Edwards, UPswing Mastermind

5. CHOOSE SINCERITY > SALESY

How do I do that, you ask?  Be yourself, and offer yourself. Here's what I mean:

Be Yourself - Reflect on your skills, your passion, your purpose and your ‘WHY’ — and keep this feeling in your mind and heart.   Your drive to be a coach and help others is in itself a gift to those who really need it. With that self-belief and ownership, a confidence develops and the ability to be ‘sincerely you’ is born.

Offer Yourself - This can mean talking to people you know about your work, connecting with people who you know need support, sharing your services with acquaintances, and with people you meet. Get out there as you, in your power, with your unique skills — and offer yourself to people. Offering means asking them if they would like to learn more about working with you, and about how you could support them.

Show them your sincerity and genuine desire to help them. One thing I've learnt is that many people are afraid to ask. It's when we are in our power and can sincerely offer ourselves to someone, which supports others to accept, with gratitude.

- Sally Jane Douglas, UPswing Mastermind

6. GET OUT OF SALES & INTO SERVICE

As a Mindset Coach, I believe it’s so important to know “where your heads at”.  Observe your mindset when interacting and speaking with potential clients. Notice how you feel, what you say to yourself, and what you think about when talking about your services.  Do you feel as if it is hard, difficult, awkward, and scary? Or is it empowering, fun, enriching, nurturing and in flow?

What you believe and how you feel sets the tone, and people pick up on your vibes! Write a long list of all the benefits you offer your clients to convince yourself of the immense value you have to share, so you can completely “own it”! :)   As coaches we are here to serve and help people achieve their goals, so in my mind I don’t sell, I only serve — with a deep inner belief and certainty that I can truly help them in a positive and empowering way. When they pick up on these vibes, they start to see the possibilities and believe it too.

- Carolyn Daley, UPswing Mastermind

7. SPREAD THE WORD (AND MAKE IT EASY TO BOOK)

To get started finding clients, tell everyone you know what do, what you offer, and how you can help them — through social media, email and word of mouth.  Create a simple process for them to book a discovery session. You might be surprised who is most interested, and how many people are willing to spread the word for you!

- Michelle Joison, UPswing Mastermind

8. START THE CONVERSATION

Start having the conversation. Tell people what you do — it opens up further questions, conversations and opportunities. Have these conversations with your family, friends, personal trainer, osteopath, the receptionist at the gym…even the stranger you start chatting to in the queue at Starbucks. You just never know where these conversations will take you!!!

- Melinda Benstead, UPswing Momentum

9. KEEP SHOWING UP

It might seem like no one is seeing your FB or IG posts and it can get discouraging, but keep showing up and consistently be seen. It pays off! Share about yourself, your story, your struggles, your wins. Be you, and show your ideal client your authentic self. As people start to know, like, and trust you, they'll soon be messaging you. Be patient. It doesn't happen overnight, but it DOES happen!

- Shonda Smith Palmer, UPswing Momentum

10. CONNECT TO YOUR WHY

This has been so important for me because it allows me to authentically speak to people who need my help.  When times get tough or I feel busy and overwhelmed, it always helps to connect to my why and promote my services from that place of passion and service. I find clients respond to that type of authentic, ‘from the heart’ communication and message.

- Christina Tidwell, UPswing Momentum

11. SPEAK TO YOUR TARGET MARKET

Melanie Hansen_Momentum.jpg

My top tip is to really understand your target market and speak to them through all your social media, newsletters. blogs etc. It’s hard sometimes to not want to speak to everyone, but knowing your target market and focusing on them only has been my biggest breakthrough.

- Melanie Hansen, UPswing Momentum

12. KNOW YOUR TARGET MARKET

Know your target market better than they know themselves. Don't just understand their pain points but talk about it in their words. Do market research.  Make sure what you are offering is something they would find irresistible. And lastly, be consistent with talking to them — even when it feels like nobody is watching!

If not now, WHEN?

Sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference.

For me, it was four little words: "If not now, when?"

My business coach at the time told them to me because I wasn’t moving forward. I was stuck thinking about my business, studying, reading, but not DOING.

The truth is that most people DREAM but never DO.

  • They think success can start "next year."
  • They think success is easy for the "lucky ones".
  • They think success will come once they already have money or fame.

But success comes from saying yes NOW and getting to WORK!

In fact, in his infamous book 'Think and Grow Rich', Napoleon Hill states this DECISION as being one of the key factors of wealth and success.

The wildly successful have learned that saying YES is a decision that can only be made NOW.  And I am insanely grateful that I learned this lesson. I realised that nothing was going to be radically different "next year" if I didn't act on my dreams TODAY.

Those 4 words led me to the 3 most important principles I run my business by today.

  1.  Success comes from making THE decision.
  2.  Success comes from staying in the present moment (today - now
  3.  Success comes from TAKING ACTION on that decision today .

These three lines are typed up above my desk and have been since they day my mentor shared those four unassuming words a few years back.

The decision I made to get in the game THAT DAY – no more waiting – saw me go from struggling to find clients (like, reeeeally struggling) to earning high 6-figures a year from my coaching business. (And crossing seven figures in the past 18 months!!)

But it wasn't just about the money regarding STUFF or my lifestyle. Those four words gave me the freedom to invest in my passions both with my time and finances.

In fact, this year I donated a substantial amount towards a school in Africa as part of the World Teacher Aid initiative set up by fellow online marketer Stu McLaren. Being able to contribute to such a worthy cause is something I never dreamt possible. Next year I might even be able to visit this school and see the social impact first hand!

If you are serious about growing your coaching business, helping others to transform their lives, and changing the world, I am going to pass those four words of wisdom over to you now.

“If not now, when?”

Let's make 2017 the YEAR of DECISIONS and ACTION.

[Amanda's Story] From crippling money blocks to making $10k in 10 weeks

As January comes to a close and we move into February, how are those New Year's Resolutions holding up?

Still avoiding carbs? Going to the gym every morning? Spending less on that shoe collection?

Yeah, me neither...

But I do have an even more important question...

How are your BUSINESS resolutions holding up?

Well, I have one graduate who's starting 2017 with a BANG!  I spoke with Amanda Pickering before the holidays, just a few months after starting my UPswing Mastermind, and I wanted to share her story.

Before Amanda started UPswing Mastermind, she was really struggling with her biz. She had done her training, completed some general business development courses, and even had a few clients. But she was NOWHERE near where she wanted to be regarding her finances and reach.

Amanda was working HARD (12+ hour days)...

And doing everything she was told was “RIGHT” (at least what she was told in her business development classes)...

But something was WRONG. Amanda wasn’t progressing.

She knew it wasn't just her strategy. She recognised she had HUGE money blocks that were keeping her from success. However, she had no idea how to break down those barriers. Amanda knew she needed help, but didn't know from where.

When Amanda found my program, she was skeptical. She had already tried group classes and business development coaching, and neither seemed to yield results. She had racked up some debt and wasn't making nearly enough with her business to justify cost.

However, Amanda was excited by the fact that my program was specifically designed for health coaches, and she wouldn't have to squeeze some one-size-fits-all training into her business.  She figured if she could just land ONE client a month, the investment would pay for itself.

So, Amanda took the plunge. And she's so happy she did.

Amanda discovered that with a Mastermind course, she actually broke through her limiting beliefs FASTER. This is because when working in a group she was able to experience the breakthroughs of her classmates as well as her own. She learned she wasn't alone, her anxieties and fears were shared by everyone in the group. This allowed her to feel more confident and ambitious with her dreams.

Amanda's results?

Ten weeks after starting the UPswing Mastermind she had made her first $10K!  She had landed eight discovery calls. (She only had 3 in the past year and a half) and she was able to go part-time at her job.  She's now positioned to go full-time with her business, and I can't WAIT to see what happens next for her!

If you want to listen to Amanda's full story, I did an interview with her right here >>

My favourite thing she said in the whole interview was that she felt that ANYONE could have her success.  The step-by-step process I provide for building your packages, marketing, and piecing together your business plan, is foolproof.

If you show up, and do the work, you will succeed.

Amanda xx

PS: With the UPswing Mastermind, Amanda's story can be YOUR story in 2017.  But doors are closing soon, on Sunday 5th February, so click here to apply ASAP >>

Why you don't need to feel confident to start coaching

So many new coaches come to me saying that they don’t feel ‘expert’ enough to start coaching....
They think that they need to do another training to feel 'good enough' to coach...

Well, I thought this story from when I first started out might help everyone to see that NO-ONE feels confident when first starting out!

One of my first clients was a young woman named Rebecca. When Rebecca came to work with me I had only worked with a handful of clients on the basic program I had learnt at IIN.

Rebecca was bedridden with Chronic Fatigue and had been told not to expect a recovery.

As a new Health Coach, I wandered if I knew enough to help her. I wondered if my limited health knowledge would be strong enough to support her in improving her health.

I started working with Rebecca on both nutrition basics and also ‘primary foods’ and mindset which were the parts I really loved myself.

Only a few sessions into our coaching she emailed to say her family couldn’t believe it but she was able to get out of bed long enough to go to her sister’s graduation. She emailed me photos of her with her new dress and makeup.

And yet it wasn’t till our final session on Skype that I truly saw the total transformation in her. She was out of bed and looking fabulous. And her doctors had even changed her medicine in their amazement at her unexpected and rapid improvements.

Sometimes, it really is the basics, with someone by your side to believe in you, to hold your hand to a new way of living, to reflect back an outside view and to cheerlead you on all the way to a new level of health.

Rebecca was so overjoyed at her transformation that she too went on to train as a Health Coach and so did her Mum!! How cool is that?!

Talk about creating the ripple effect in the world’s health.

Why you don't need to feel confident to start coaching.png

And Rebecca was not the only client I had in the early days who had such great results – even BEFORE I felt uber confident and ‘expert’ as a Health Coach.

To be a good Health Coach you do not need to KNOW everything – but you do need to get out of your own way and be willing to start helping others.

Trust me, if I could get such great results with my clients EVEN though I never felt I knew ‘enough’ then so can you!

And the best news is, that ‘not enough’ feeling goes away quick smart after you’ve seen this happen with just a few clients and you’ll be able to look back as I do and wonder why you didn’t get in the game sooner.
